What an epic movie. It shows the changes China went through and the chinese tradicional way of teaching or creating opera performers. Very harsh indeed. This story focuses on two boys who become best friends and grow up to be well known opera actors. The photography and shots are really beautiful and mesmerizing at times. The movie is successful in detailing historical and important events that happened in China such as the Japanese occupation, the communist victory and the cultural revolution.
